This New York-based fashion label has been at its height of success for a very long time, exactly 21 years. The company’s designs have been sold in more than 700 shops in 50 countries around the world, including Great Britain where the company was founded. Since its opening a little over two decades ago, Rag & Bone has moved their stores to New York, and there are currently ten stores in the city.
The brand is known for making wearable clothes that are elegant, yet refined. These pieces capture the look of the modern world all while keeping the styles classic, with hints of British flare. The classic tailoring used to create the styles you see today is the result of good quality and time-honored techniques. This attention to detail is highly important for all designers when thinking of new innovative ideas to incorporate into the brand.
Rag & Bone’s number one philosophy is to ensure that their brand honors excellent craftsmanship that can easily be recognizable in their wide variety of shoes, clothing, and accessories. The urban style that Rag & Bone emphasizes in their streetwear has a slightly edgy yet understated design that can easily pair perfectly with any look you see on the streets of New York City. The combination of classic tailoring with cutting-edge modernized designs keeps the brand growing in popularity while working to accommodate growing fashion trends.
Their jeans specifically are produced in some of the oldest factories in the United States, and the brand prides itself on beautifully constructed clothes while honoring its good quality guarantee. The extremely skilled and professional manufacturers are what throw the company over the edge when creating beautifully clean-silhouette-inspired clothing.
Current Head Designer
Rag & Bone’s newest head designer, Jennie McCormick, has recently been appointed head designer as of a few weeks ago. Having worked with the company for a few years, she already knows the importance of upholding a company name as big as Rag & Bone.
After one of the co-founders, Marcus Wainwright, left the company this July, McCormick was appointed head designer, making this the first time since the company was founded 21 years ago that an owner isn’t involved in any of the processes.
The company is known for having top-notch professionals working on keeping their company up-to-date with the newest trends, all while keeping that classy, yet elegant style that customers keep coming back for. McCormick is no stranger to working with a team of people in the fashion industry as well as the other designers at Rag & Bone.
The company has been growing for the past two decades and along with it, the employees have been working to keep up with the demands of keeping new designs that pay homage to coastal, British heritage. Mixing class with comfort has been the goal, and to make any consumer feel comfortable yet chic while rocking any style of clothing from Rag and Bone—and people like McCormick are continuing to make that possible.
It’s incredibly impressive how far McCormick has made it in climbing the ladder in the company. From working in product management to becoming one of the head designers for Rag & Bone, McCormick has worked as the chief women’s officer, making her a perfect candidate for designing women’s fashion at the company.
Now, being the head designer for women’s clothing, footwear, and accessories, McCormick continues to thrive in her work with one of the most dynamic and high-class fashion brands of our time.
The Creators Behind Rag & Bone
The company was founded in 2002 by Marcus Wainwright and Nathan Bogle. The pair created the clothing brand inspired by the type of clothing they and their friends would wear. Even with no training in the fashion world, the two were able to skyrocket their clothing brand.

After arriving in New York just one year before the company was founded, through their hard work and a great amount of ambition the pair had to work their way up in the fashion industry, but it was all worth it. With Nogle leaving in order to pursue other job interests, Wainwright held onto the idea of creating sustainable clothing that anyone would want to wear.
Soon after the brand launched, David Neville took over as one of the co-founders once Bogle left. When David Neville joined, he too had no prior knowledge of making jeans as he hadn’t worked in the fashion industry before 2005.
Wainwright and Neville worked together to form the clothing brand that we know and love today. Having originally launched their company a few years before they decided to dabble in both men’s and women’s clothing, their company only continued to bloom and grow with new pieces for everyone.
What started with wanting to learn how to make jeans, quickly became a high-end fashion brand that continues to entice new customers as well as loyal consumers, with their fine and graceful styles.
What Rag & Bone is Known For
Rag & Bone is known for its luxurious, yet classic take on modern styles. With bits and pieces pertaining to British heritage, the brand continues to uphold these designs, while generating new ideas that give a simple, modern touch. Rag & Bone is sold at high-end boutiques, which offers consumers subtle and sophisticated exclusive garments.
Rag & Bone is also known for its elevated and classy style that is essential in your wardrobe all year round. As the company prides itself on its ethically produced clothing, such as its jeans that are manufactured and produced in the state of Louisiana, quality is held to the greatest importance.
While upholding its good quality guarantee, the brand easily allows any consumer to create customizable looks that pertain to their personal style. The design is guaranteed to be of great comfort and quality no matter the article of your choosing. Whether you’re in need of a new pair of good quality, long-lasting jeans or a new leather jacket, Rag & Bone has it all.
As the company mainly has products with very noticeable colors to adhere to the classic look, there are a variety of clothing options that you can mix and match no matter the time of year. As it’s easier to incorporate more neutral shades into your day-to-day outfits, there are all kinds of chic and effortlessly beautiful pieces to choose from.
If you’re someone who prefers a pop of color, pinks, and reds are also common colors found at Rag & Bone. Though all colors can be found in items produced by Rag & Bone, it’s more common to find clothes in neutral shades, so the occasional suit jackets and sweaters that can be found in pastel pink or bright reds are the brand’s way of incorporating that modern cutting edge into their timeless pieces. No matter your favorite color to wear, it’s simple and easy to find your new style with timeless favorites for any wardrobe.
Why the Previous Head Designer Stepped Down
The previous head designer, David Neville, who was once the co-chief executive officer of Rag & Bone, has since stepped down from the company. After joining the company in 2005, a year after working in the men’s and women’s line, Neville was promoted to become a partner alongside Wainwright. Since then, the company has continued to grow exponentially.
It’s been a little over six years since the co-founder stepped down in order to pursue his interests in working in the beauty industry alongside his wife Gucci Westman.
Although he has stepped down from his role as CEO, Neville is still a shareholder and board member of the company. Since stepping down from his daily role as head designer, Neville has broadened his work experience to solely working in the beauty industry, although he has expressed his wishes to invest in fashion brands in the near future.

After his departure from the American fashion label in 2016, he left Wainwright, as its only remaining CEO. As of two months ago, the leadership position has changed once again, leaving Jennie McCormick as the new head designer as of a few weeks ago.
